WishGarden Herbs was started in Boulder, Colorado in 1979 by Barbara Wishengrad, a local midwife. Her purpose was to provide herbal formulas for her pregnant and birthing clients. Every product was made by hand, then bottled and labeled in a small kitchen. Not much has changed in the making of our products. The formulas are still hand-crafted from beginning to end.
As traditionalists, they prepare their medicine in small batches, apothecarial style, using only wild harvested and organically grown herbs with very few exceptions. Many of the botanicals used in their formulas have been grown on high altitude organic farms or gathered sustainably in the beautiful Rocky Mountains. WishGarden is pleased to support small organic farmers in our region and strives to locally source as many of their herbs as possible.

I was first introduced to Wishgarden Herbs a few years ago by a friend who suggested their Mastitis Remedy to resolve my plugged ducts. I had tried all the suggestions from Le Leche League, but was not getting any relief. Within 12 hours of taking my first dose of Mastitis Remedy, my ducts were clear and I was no longer in pain! Since then, I have used many, many more of Wishgarden’s Remedies with amazing results. When I feel an illness or ailment coming on, Wishgarden’s remedies are what I go to first!

Earth Mama Angel Baby Announces Skin Deep Rating

June 23, 2009– Clackamas, OR – As women become more concerned about the ingredients in the personal care products they use while pregnant, and on their children, Earth Mama Angel Baby has set a new standard for truly toxin-free, natural products. All Earth Mama Angel Baby products are now rated a “zero” on the Skin Deep database (www.cosmeticdatabase.com), a guide to cosmetics and personal care products from the Environmental Working Group. (Earth Mama Angel Baby’s USDA Certified 100% Organic line of teas is not listed in the Skin Deep database, which is only for personal care items. The teas are regulated by the USDA.)
“We know of no other company that manufactures products for pregnancy or baby care with an entire product line rated a zero,” said Melinda Olson, CEO and Founder of Earth Mama Angel Baby. “We continually source new raw materials and work on formulations of products that can replace current ingredients with newer, safer ingredients as they become available,” she added.
Olson explains that science and chemistry have only begun to catch up with the demand for toxin-free products. Because ingredients that preserve and emulsify the products are necessary to prevent bacteria and mold growth, finding safe, organic raw materials that solve these issues is a constant challenge.
“Preserving products for shelf-life is obviously necessary, and we are not satisfied unless the chemistry used is as safe as possible,” she explains. “In some cases, certified organic ingredients are just not available, so we change our formulations as they become available, or as better alternatives are found.”

Earth Mama Angel Baby is currently working in tandem with the Organic Trade Association and the American Herbal Products Association to create a version of the NOP standards appropriate for personal care products. The USDA NOP was developed to certify organic food, making some personal care products impossible to certify with this standard.
A Gold Member of the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, and one of the earliest signers, Earth Mama Angel Baby is fully compliant with all phases of the compact, which include registration of all applicable products in the Skin Deep database with detailed ingredient information. April Showers bring May Flowers… and sneezing, coughing and stuffy noses…
Are you one of those that is cursed with seasonal allergies? With symptoms that range from mild coughing and sneezing to full blown migraines, over-production of mucous and eyes that are constantly watering, seasonal allergies are tough going for many. Here are some natural approaches to dealing with your allergies, so you can enjoy this wonderful season of Spring!
Wishgarden Herbs has formulated several remedies for Allergy sufferers. Allergy Relief! comes in an adult formula as well as one that is safe while Pregnant or Nursing and another for Kids. Yerba Santa leaf, Nettles leaf and Echinacea root make this an excellent herbal antihistamine. This remedy is non-sedating, non-stimulating and is intended to provide relief of allergic symptoms associated with hayfever, dust mites and pet dander. Do not use herbal remedies in combination with OTC drugs as this could cause adverse reactions!
Another option for allergy relief is acupuncture. Acupuncture has no side effects, and is effective at treating the sypmtoms of allergies. With continued use of acupuncture, the immune system will be strengthened, enabling your body to better handle the causes of allergy symptoms in the future.
Avoid soy, dairy and peanuts. These three foods are some of the most mucous forming foods on the Planet and can really inhibit your health, especially during allergy season. If you just have to have dairy, raw goats milk is the best choice, but other alternatives include almond milk and hemp seed milk. Eliminate white flour, white sugar, heavily processed foods, preservatives, food coloring and MSG. Try to eat a high raw foods diet, adding lots of dark leafy greens to your daily menu. (For great ideas on how to get more greens into your diet, check out “Green For Life” by Victoria Boutenko.) Limit your intake of flesh meats (beef, chicken, fish, etc) as these are very difficult to digest, requiring a lot of energy that could be better used towards dealing with the allergens. You might also consider an elimination diet, taking out common allergens such as gluten, dairy and eggs. Many have found that eating a high raw foods diet has dramatically helped with their allergies (along with a whole host of other ailments.)
Take your vitamins! We use and recommend Shaklee’s vitamins as this reputable company has a long and positive track record, and their products are simply amazing. Include supplements such as Vitamin C, Omega-3, Alfalfa, and Probiotics along with your multi-vitamin/mineral supplement. You get what you pay for with vitamins, if you don’t notice an improvement with your health within 2 weeks or so, you may consider switching brands.
Include raw, local honey into your diet (at least 1-2 Tablespoons). Bee Pollen is also great to add, but start off very slowly, in order to catch any allergic reactions (start with 1 little ball of pollen the first day and gradually increase to about a teaspoon a day.) We are fortunate out here in Colorado to have Madhava close by, their honey is truly raw, which is so important! There are tons of beneficial enzymes in raw honey that are otherwise destroyed if the honey is heated past 118 degrees. (118 is the magic number for when the enzymes are destroyed in all foods.)
